Kivu Sporthorses & Training is a tranquil farm where horses get to be horses. Our main focus is to be a training and boarding facility with everything needed to bring along young or green horses, restart Off The Track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs), and condition performance horses for competition or sale. The 16-stall stable is located on rolling pasture and ridable fields in McDonough, GA. The facility hosts a stadium jumping arena with lights, grass dressage arena (under construction), cross-country jumps, round pen, ride-across stream, and rolling hills for conditioning. Trainer lives on site and manages the farm. Easy access from I-20 and I-75 East and South of Atlanta.
Our stalls come with 2 water buckets scrubbed daily, hay bags and corner feeders. We bed with pine shavings cleaned once daily. Each stall has an overhead door behind it that opens to allow for great ventilation.
We have individual and group turnout available. Our pastures are large given we have 50+ acres available for turnout. However, we do have smaller paddocks available for layup. Our pastures are fenced in 4 strands of White Centaur fencing as well as horse safe no-climb wire with a board on top. Pastures are a mix of hills and flat areas.
We have a large arena with lights and a full jump course (photo is outdated - gymnastics and full courses set regularly). It is conveniently located next to the barn. We drag it regularly to maintain the consistency in our M10 footing. The base and footing were redone in the spring of 2019.
Three cross-ties / wash racks located inside the barn.
The entire perimeter of the property is fenced with Centaur fencing. Cross Fencing has been done with no-climb horse safe wire with a board on top. There are no t-posts on the property.
We have cross country jumps placed strategically around the farm. We have a bank, ditch and our water complex is currently under construction. We also have a stream flowing along one boarder of the property. Those wanting exposure to crossing streams can get plenty of practice!
Since our facility was once the home of 1996 Olympic Endurance riders we have GREAT hills for conditioning.
For those horses requiring less grass we do have dry lot turnout available.
We have a round pen available for use by our boarders and horses in training.
